What is the SaltBox capacity and bed size?
The SaltBox is a 2 story house with 2 bedrooms on the second floor. The master bedroom has an ultra plush King Size bed and the guest bedroom and 2 single beds. The SaltBox sleeps 4 people.
How do I get the keys?
Prior to your arrival we will coordinate a key pick up date and time.
Are children allowed?
Yes, the SaltBox is a “child-friendly” environment.
Do you allow pets?
Sorry no pets allowed.
Can I check in early?
There are no early check in's. Check in time is 4:00 PM to allow the previous guests to depart and allow our cleaning staff to prepare for your arrival. Depending upon flight times of arrival and departure, we can discuss different times. Please contact us for details.
Can I check out late?
There are no late check out's. Check out time is 11:00AM. To ensure the cottage is ready for any incoming guests we ask that you adhere to current check out times. Please contact us.
What is your cancellation policy?
Deposits are non refundable. There is no refund for early departure.
Will linens/towels be provided?
Yes, we provide sheets, towels, blankets, comforters, and pillows, but we ask that you please put a load of sheets in the laundry prior to departure.
How far away is the nearest medical facility?
Hospital facilities are located in St. John’s which is approximately 20 minutes to drive.
What is the neighbourhood like, secluded, populated, safe?
Bauline is a small, quiet fishing community with approximately 30 homes. The neighbours are very friendly. Bauline is a very safe community. The deck is on the ocean side and is quite private, but don’t be surprised if you are greeted by some of the locals.
Does the SaltBox have a phone or internet connection?
The SaltBox does not have a phone however cellular reception is good when you go to the second floor bathroom. We also have free high speed wifi service available.
Are there animals that I need to worry about?
Newfoundland has moose, caribou and rabbits. There is nothing that will harm you, just be careful when driving at night, moose have been known to cross the road quite frequently.
Are there many bugs?
That depends on when you are here. In May-June, we have the famous “black flies” that are quick bothersome. In Newfoundland, they are a bit larger than Ontario. You will be fine as long as you wear a hat, good insect repellent, perhaps long pants and shirt. During the remainder of Spring and Summer, you will find mosquitoes. Avon Skin So Soft works well in addition to OFF and other bug repellents.

What is the best time of the year to go to the SaltBox, is there anything to do in the Winter?
The best time to visit the SaltBox is from May to October, we close it down during the winter months. Please see our “What to do” and “Activities” pages.
Where does the water come from - is it safe to drink?
The SaltBox water comes from the town water system. The town has a brand new dug well and is excellent for drinking.
What do you use for cooling or heating?
There is no air conditioning in the house however we have a lovely breeze all year around. There are floor board heaters in each room with their own thermostat. In addition there is a wood fireplace and firewood on the deck.
Is there a TV and VCR?
Yes, there is a large flat screen, cable TV and VCR but no DVD. We also offer free wireless internet service and a stereo with CD player. We have many great local Celtic CD’s and movies for you to enjoy.
Can we smoke in the cottage?
No, we ask smokers to smoke outside and please butt out in a wet container and discard all filters. We are adamant about this request.
Is there cleaning staff?
Yes but we ask you to keep our cottage just as clean as we've prepared it for you. We understand messes may happen during your stay, that's why we have provided basic cleaning materials (vacuum, mop, bucket, cleaning agents, etc.) Local garbage and recycling should be left at the entrance of the driveway.
Is there any night life?
If you mean nightclubs and casinos, not close by... If you are looking for night life, please visit downtown St. John’s where you will have tons of fun.
What is the average temperature?
During summer temperatures generally range from 25° to 30°C with wonderful cool breezes.
Will we need to bring dishes and cutlery?
No we provide everything you need in the kitchen except food and drinks. Please bring your own paper towels, dishwasher & laundry detergent, etc.
Is there a BBQ?
Yes there is a propane BBQ just outside your door.
Where can we buy groceries?
Just 10 minutes away you will see the small village of Torbay where you can buy groceries and liquor. There is also a large Dominion store with a liquor store attached on your way from the airport to the Saltbox.

There is a large garbage bin at the end of the driveway at the road, please put all garbage bags in there as you fill them up to prevent odors and bugs in the SaltBox?
What kind of fish are there in the local lakes?
The pond up the road has excellent brown trout fishing.
